Collating digital narratives to raise awareness of the rich cultural heritage of African Nations

Welcome to the

SINGLE STORY project

Collating digital narratives to raise awareness of the rich cultural heritage of African Nations

ABOUT

SingleStory project partners aim to work with local members of the African diaspora in each of our countries to collect, record and archive these stories. Once collected, our aim is to share these narratives with school communities, social and community groups, family support centres, youth clubs and cafes, older persons service providers, etc. and to share the stories of Africa. These stories will be recorded and displayed in an online portal and accessible to all. When SingleStory partners view ancient maps of Africa, we see the phrase ‘Hich Sunt Fabulas’ or ‘here are stories’; and our aim is to unlock these stories, and to share them among educators, young and adult learners in Europe to appreciate and celebrate the cultural diversity of Africa, and its contribution to European cultural heritage and diversity.

OUTPUTS

The SingleStory project will develop innovative education methods and digital tools over the course of project lifetime

IO1

Digital Storytelling Curriculum

The Digital Storytelling Curriculum will comprise 4 full-day (7 hour) workshops and lesson plans will be available online as a handbook in pdf format for printing and as a flipbook for online use. Due to the risk posed by COVID-19, these lesson plans will be developed as a hybrid programme, meaning that all activities developed for face-to-face instruction can also be delivered through online channels. Partners will include these adaptations into the lesson plans so that each partner has the flexibility to deliver the curriculum online or in person, if possible.

IO2

Induction Programme for Community And Adult Educators

Partners will develop a bespoke induction training programme to ensure that adult educators are fully trained to deliver the SingleStory Digital Storytelling Curriculum and to harness the full potential of the online learning environments developed by project partners.

The induction training will be developed as a practical training programme. Similar to the Digital Storytelling Curriculum, the Induction Training Programme will be developed in such a way that it can be delivered as both and online and face-to-face programme. The Programme will comprise 3 modules, which will be delivered as a series of 6 half-day workshops, and supported by an additional 7-hours of online or self-directed learning.

IO3

SingleStory Digital Repository and MOOC

SingleStory will develop a Digital Repository which will be linked to the project website and will be used to share all 140 digital stories produced by the African storytellers who complete the Digital Storytelling Curriculum.

The proposed SingleStory MOOC will provide access to the Digital Storytelling Curriculum and the Induction Training Programme and will have all the features associated with best- practice in MOOC design and development.
